Ursula

In the first draft of the Little Mermaid, King Triton and Ursula were brother and sister, explaining how they were the only two magical people in the sea kingdom. King Triton didn’t like Ursula so he annexed the whole ocean and banished Ursula to the undersea caves. But Disney cut the sibling plot for time and decided: handsome, white, King Triton is good and ugly, vaguely ethnic, Ursula is bad.

King Triton demands his daughters to do his bidding and obey his orders without question or else he will destroy their stuff. Ursula takes poor unfortunate souls and helps them fulfill their hearts’ desires. but at a price. So sad but true. Ursula dishes out the truth; nice things come at a cost. Sacrifice is an important part of life. Which is a much better situation compared to Triton’s “Obey me and have lavish parties with all your fish friends.

Scar

We all know he has the worst, most menacing scar and he may have killed Mufasa but Mufasa had his flaws too. Mufasa had a whole monologue about how all lives are one and how the circle of life moves us all but somehow the whole hyena species isn’t. “Oh we’re all connected, Simba. Except those guys. Screw those guys.” What crime could be so heinous for Mufasa to exile a whole species to starve to death amongst the bones of elephants.

When Scar recruited the hyenas, his only vow was that they would ‘never go hungry again.’ Mufasa had left them for dead. Scar is the good guy here because he was caring towards the starving hyenas. He doesn’t promise the hyenas power or riche.s He promised them food to be able to live. In his reign, though he failed to feed the packs and the pride, doesn’t make him wrong. Technically, his intentions were pure.

Gaston

Though he is cocky, Gaston is the right amount of arrogant you’d want in a protagonist, though he may not be the sharpest tool in the shed. You may think, “Gaston just wants to sleep with Belle!” which is true. Everyone in the town thinks Belle is weird because of her bookworm personality and her father but here comes Gaston all that’ing Belle. You may say “Gaston’s just nice to Belle because he wants Belle to like him!” but so does the beast. Gaston is saying, “I think you’re pretty. Let’s hangout.” while the beast is saying, “You have to love me within a few weeks or I will be doomed by witch magic!”.

From Gaston’s point of view, there is a monster just outside the village that had Belle’s dad in captivity and is currently holding Belle inside the castle. If anything, he is a hero that just wanted to protect his village.
